The Government has earmarked over 15 billion shillings in the next financial year to facilitate elections for Village and Women Councils across the country.
According to highlights of the adopted ministerial policy statement for the Electoral Commission, government has committed to funding the elections.
The Minister of State for Planning, David Bahati has also assured Parliament this afternoon that the funds will be availed.
The postponement of the local council elections has in the past drawn criticisms from a cross section of Ugandans and Civil Society groups who faulted the government for not prioritizing grassroots elections.
