Those arrested include Kawempe North Member of Parliament Mubarak Munyagwa as he reportedly tried to force his way into Makerere University.
The others other Kawempe councilor Muhammad Ssegirinya, Doreen Nyanjura the KCCA Councilor representing Makerere University, Simon Wanyera the Guild representative for the school of education.
The students were carrying bananas which they say was to be auctioned to raise money for the academic staff incentive arrears.
According to the Head of Security at Makerere University Jackson Mucunguzi these are all being held at Wandegeya police station.
The opposition FDC party led by its former presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye had planned to conduct a fundraising campaign at the university’s Freedom Square to raise funds for Makerere University’s academic staff incentive arrears amounting to Sh28bn.
President Musevni ordered closure of the University after the academic staff went on strike protesting nonpayment of their incentive arrears.
