Security agencies have identified 92 areas as hotspots for possible violence during and after elections.

Maj. Emmy Katabazi, the deputy director General of Internal Security Organization says the 92 areas have been identified in constituencies where, according to intelligence information, people are planning to cause violence.

Maj Katabazi adds that from today, the army will be visible on the streets across the country to pacify the country to ensure peace and security during election and after elections.

He has warned against circulation of inflammatory and false information especially on social media, describing it as a major weapon used to cause violence.

Speaking at a stakeholders dialogue meeting organized by the Inter-religious Council of Uganda on the 2021 elections, Katabazi apologized for the mistakes made by some security personnel in the past, assuring the public of peace during and after elections.

Msgr Charles Kasibante, the Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese supported the deployment of soldiers saying their presence would restore confidence among the many Ugandans who are already fearing for the worst about the election.
