The speaker of parliament has revealed that there are plans to set up a specialized hospital in Uganda to effectively handle cases of obstetric fistula.
While addressing the Uganda North American Association Convention in Miami, in the US, Rebecca Kadaga said that working with Parliament and with support from partners, the hospital that will be built in Soroti in 2018 and will be the first of its kind in Africa.
She said that this Hospital is set to serve as a center of excellence and a demonstration facility for surgical training programmes that will offer psychosocial rehabilitation for fistula survivors.
once established, the hospital is expected to conduct at least 1,000 surgeries per year, which is almost double the current number.
