The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has called for the suspension of committee field activities during plenary days.

In his communication to the house on Tuesday, Tayebwa said it is unacceptable for members to go out to the field at the expense of plenary sittings.

According to the deputy speaker, attendance of plenary sittings has suffered at the hands of members attending committee activities in the field.

He says a lot of work and business that should be of priority is being delayed on the floor of the house due to the absentia of MPs who do committee work in the field.

He has now directed the clerk to parliament to stop all committee activities coinciding with plenary sittings.

Parliament sits from Tuesday to Thursday every week and has over 20 committees.
