UPE Probe team at Parliament

Committee Chairperson Sam Lyomoki

The probe team into alleged corruption in the Universal Primary and Secondary Education Program is this morning appearing before Parliament’s committee on Social Services.

The team is expected to explain delays in presenting findings from its investigations, having been instituted in November 2009 with a 6months deadline, that they failed to meet.

Parliament recently halted the probe and directed that the commission appear before the committee to explain the progress so far reached since its inception.

The MPs are concerned that from 2009, the commission had not produced any report yet it continues to spend public funds, with close to Shs 7billion taken so far.

The commission led by its chairperson Justice Ezekiel Muhanguzi is appearing before the social services committee headed by Samuel Lyomoki.

The probe was instituted to investigate reports of corruption as well as ghost pupils and teachers, among others.
