Government to resettle people in landslide prone areas

By Benjamin Jumbe:

The Government says it will soon be resettling people in landslide prone areas of Mt Elgon.

Recent landslides in Sironko and Bulambuli killed at least four people. Nine others are still missing and are feared dead, while scores of others have been displaced.

Presenting a statement before parliament yesterday, the state minister for relief and disaster preparedness Musa Ecweru said the government will in a few months resettle over 6,600 people on the 2,868 acres  of government land in Bulambuli district.

He adds that in the meantime the government is to continue offering relief food to affected communities.
