Land probe commission granted 6-month extension

President Yoweri Museveni has granted a six month extension to the land probe commission.
This is after the initial six-month tenure that it had been allocated to conclude it inquiries expired on the November 9 2017.
The extension has been confirmed in a statement issued by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire who heads the probe commission.
The commission is now expected to submit its findings and recommendations to President Museveni by May 9th 2018.
The president appointed the seven-member team to assess the effectiveness of law, policies and processes of land acquisition, and administration, land management and land registration in Uganda and it officially began its work on May 9th.
The Commission has so far conducted several public hearings in and outside Kampala, unearthing a number of wrongful land evictions and mismanagement.
It has also carried out field visits in the areas of Wakiso, Nakaseke, Luwero, Mukono, Jinja, Hoima, Mubende, Masaka, Gulu and Mbarara.
