Minister Kyambadde speaks out on the eviction of city vendors

| September 8, 2011

A government minister says the manner in which vendors plying their trade on Kampala streets were evicted was not proper.

The vendors were evicted on Monday after a four-day ultimatum to vacate the streets.

The eviction as effected by Kampala Capital City Authority following complaints from traders on their presence, which they said was affecting their businesses.

However, Trade Minister, Amelia Kyambadde says the operation was rushed and the vendors should have been given ample time to find alternative areas to operate from.

Kyambadde adds that even then, government is committed to ensuring that the vendors are resettled in permanent areas where they can sell their goods.
