Ministry of health calls for joint effort to eliminate teenage pregnancies

Ministry of health has called for joint effort to eliminate the problem of teenage pregnancy in Uganda.

Speaking before parliament this evening, the minister for health Dr Jane Ruth Achenge said that teenage pregnancy is no longer a health concern only by a social problem.

She said that to fight this issue, all state holders must be on board including political, religious, and traditional leaders.

She said that that notwithstanding they have launched National sexuality frame work which will be instrumental in reduce early sex in schools as well as HIV prevalence.

Statistics from ministry of health show that much as teenage pregnancy rate declined from 31% in 2001 to 24% in 2011, it has gone up again to 25% as of 2016.
