The Electoral Commission has disqualified one of the candidates vying for the Butebo County seat.

Independent candidate, Richard Oseku Oriebo has been deemed ineligible to participate in the by-election to replace former Disaster Preparedness minister, the late Dr. Stephen Malinga, due to his failure to retire from the army where he served at the rank of Sergeant.

During a meeting held at the Commission offices today, it was resolved that Oseku did not follow legal procedures to retire from the armed forces before vying for any elective position.

The Commission’s spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa has confirmed this.
