Rebecca Kadaga has told parliament that there is no specific provision that requires her to declare the seats vacant.

She adds that the issue is not new, it was brought up in parliament in 2005 during the constitutional amendments and that clause was deleted from the constitution.

Kadaga adds that her mandate is to protect the parliament and the MPs who are there.

The decision means that the four MPs that were sacked from the ruling party earlier for alleged indiscipline retain their seats.

They are Bernabus Tinkasimire for Buyaga County, Muhammad Nsereko for Kampala Central, Alfred Niwagaba Ndorwa East and Theodore Ssekikubo.
