The meeting between teachers and the education minister has again ended without agreement.
The meeting that was chaired by minister Jesica Alupo had been meant to address the ongoing teachers’ strike prompted by cries over pay.
According to the Secretary General of the Uganda National Teachers’ Union James Tweheyo, government has not run out of options, suggesting that a supplementary budget be passed to cater for their 20% salary increment.
However, the minister insists that that is not possible this financial year and is calling on teachers to have confidence that government will handle their concerns in due course.
She also says that government is still open for further negotiations.
The UNATU members are now headed to Teachers’ House along Bombo Road for another meeting to forge a way forward.
The strike that has paralysed business in all government schools was called about a week ago.
