Specialized Doctors previously known as Medical Officer Special Grade have announced plans to lay down their tools over salary discrepancies.

A specialised doctor holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in different specialties such as surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics, and internal medicine among others.

Addressing journalists today under their umbrella body, Uganda Medical Association, they have given the government an ultimatum of not later than Monday next week to attend to their grievances.

Their plan to strike comes at a time the Senior House Officers’ strike has entered day four today.

According to the specialist doctors, the difference between a specialist doctor and a consultant is a whopping 102%, and yet the two categories have similar minimum qualifications.

The UMA Secretary-General Dr. Herbert Luswata tells KFM that negotiations are still ongoing with the government to have harmonised salaries for all health workers.
