Abraham Byandala named in another scandal.

Former Works and Transport minister Abraham Byandala, has again been named in another scandal.

This time he has been named for influence peddling in various road projects when he was still serving minister.

This is contained in the final report of the Uganda National Roads Authority (Unra) commission of inquiry.

The Commission of Inquiry was appointed by President Museveni last year.

High Court Judge Catherine Bamugemereire led a seven-member tribunal to investigate alleged mismanagement in UNRA from inception to 2015.

The commission handed in its report in May this year, revealing that at least Shs4 trillion was “misappropriated” in dubious deals notably through collusion between UNRA staff and contractors.

According to testimonies of several former UNRA staff which are contained in the Commission of Inquiry report, Eng. Byandala on various occasions visited road sites and always got directly in touch with either evaluators of tenders or would call junior staff directly for information about the road projects.

In some instances, the report says, Byandala personally recommended the removal of staff from UNRA’s contracts committee.
