Entebbe airport records increased international passengers

Ritah Kemigisa | September 19, 2022

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has reported a significant increase in the number of international passengers handled at Entebbe International Airport in just a month.

The authority’s spokesperson, Vianney Luggya says more than 156,000 international passengers were facilitated through Entebbe in August alone compared to the previous months.

According to Luggya, the airport recorded over 73,000 arrivals and over 82,000 departures translating into 5,000 per day.

He says this is a huge difference compared to the average daily 4,800 passengers in July and 4,500 in June and 3,500 at the start of this year in January.

Lugya says the steady increase in passenger traffic is attributed to among others; tourists, travel by pilgrims to and from Mecca, travel for trade and employment in the Middle East, and conferences.

He, however, says there is general confidence among passengers about the Airport, adding that widespread vaccination across the globe, and exemption from PCR tests for the fully vaccinated passengers also attributed to the increasing traffic.
