Government to sensitize the community about the new land policy

Government has launched a campaign to sensitize the community about the new land policy that will allow government to acquire private land for public use without prior compensation of owners.
Recently, government recently proposed the policy saying it would propel infrastructural developments in the various sectors.
The Assistant Commissioner in charge Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Lands Naome Kabanda says the campaign is intended to enable the public contribute their views about the policy.
She says the sensitization campaign will take 6 months after which the policy will be tabled before cabinet for approval.
However, Article 237(1) of the Constitution provides that ‘Land in Uganda belongs to the citizens.
