The effects of the ongoing doctors’ strike have been worsened by the lack of ambulance at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.
The hospital has been left without a functional ambulance after the only one that was helping respond to emergencies broke down a month ago.
Dr. James Elima, the Director of the hospital has told members of the parliament’s health committee that the ambulance is currently stuck in the garage.
According to Dr.Elima, government procured the vehicle 11-years- ago when it was hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
On average, the hospital receives about seven emergency cases every week, most of whom are boda boda accident victims.
In response, Betty Aol Ocan, the Gulu Woman Member of Parliament, who is also a member of the health committee has promised to push the matter before the floor of Parliament.
The hospital serves Acholi, Lango, West Nile sub regions and also receives patients from the neighboring South Sudan.,
