Kyambadde calls for comformity committee

David Kugonza | November 5, 2016

The Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Amelia Kyambadde wants government to establish a committee to oversee the activities of all businesses dealing in horticulture.

The minister’s quest follows several complaints from human rights activists and pro-women organisations against nonconformity to standards by Royal Van Zanteen a Dutch farm at Bulaga in Wakiso district that exposed over 80 of its workers to poisonous substances.

Kyambadde says that the committee should be comprised of representatives from the respective ministries of trade, industry and cooperatives as well as Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries and that of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
