Justice Ogoola decries corruption in the Judiciary

Corrupt tendencies in the Judiciary are on the rise.

The Judicial Service Commission has revealed that more cases regarding the integrity of judges are being reported.

While appearing before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee today, the commission’s chairperson, Justice James Ogoola said the vice has surprisingly crept up to the upper courts, such as the Court of Appeal.

Justice Ogoola however links the graft tendencies to the low remuneration of judicial officers, which has left several of them in huge debts hence need for urgent attention.

The commission is seeking about 1.7 billion shillings in the 2013/2014 budget to cater for unfunded priorities, including recruitment of more judges.
