Over 100,000 students to sit for UACE Exams starting Monday

Over 100,000 students are set to sit for the upcoming Uganda Advanced Certificate examination across the country slated to take place on Monday, the 14th of November 2016.
The examination is the last batch of Examinations after Uganda certificate of education Primary living examinations which kicked.
According to the press statement from the Executive Director of Uganda National Examination Board, Dan Ondongo, 104,361 students were registered for the examination of which 61,834 are male and 42,527 are female meant to take their Exams from 1887 centers.
Mr Odongo explained that the Board will deploy over 727 scouts and about 8000 invigilators to monitor the conduct of the examinations throughout the country.
“About 500 Police personnel will be involved in securing the examinations some on escort duties and others on maintaining security at the storage stations. We shall also maintain overt and covert presence in various parts of the country to deal with threats that may emerge against the examinations,” Mr Odongo said.
He however warned those who will be involved in handling examinations from storage stations to the examination centers to desist from diverting from the official routes, tempering with question paper envelops or open them before the official time.
Mr Odongo also insisted that unauthorized persons should keep away from the examination rooms and all heads of centers should cordon off those areas where candidates will be writing the examination from.
The board also cautioned head teachers, heads of centers, parents and candidates against involving themselves in any acts of malpractice or irregularities in the examinations as firm action is to be taken against any person who will not heed this warning.
“Parents, teachers and even candidates are further warned against engaging in activities that undermine the smooth conduct of exams such as bribing field officers or paying for fake question papers that unscrupulous persons tend to con people with, around this examination time,” Mr Odongo said.
Mr Ondogo however said that Candidature has increased by 3,093 about 3% from 101,268 in 2015, much as the gender gap in UAEC remained wide compared to UCE where female candidate made up to half { 49.1} of the total candidature.
He however said that for the three levels of examinations (UCE, PLE and UACE) UNEB will have examined a total of 1,068,224 candidates.
The candidates were briefed on Friday across the country by the heads of the schools, taking them through the regulations to avoid cases of students breaking regulations because of ignorance Friday by the heads of the schools
