Ponsiano Lwakataka has petitioned Court seeking over 40 billion in compensation
Car rally driver Ponsiano Lwakataka has petitioned the High Court seeking compensation of over 40 billion shillings for malicious prosecution.
In the case filed against the Attorney General and police officer Twaha Semanda, Lwakataka says on 9th September 2014 he was arrested and maliciously prosecuted for the murder of nine persons before Masaka High Court.
He was acquitted after spending one year and four months on remand because there was no sufficient evidence.
Lwakataka accuses Semanda of masterminding the move to maliciously frame him and setting witnesses including one Asuman Muddu, who told Court that he had hired him to execute the murder of the nine people in Rakai in 2013.
The deceased, including one pastor Steven Mugamba were murdered in cold blood by unknown assailants who drilled a hole to access their house.
Lwakataka says he suffered losses during his confinement. He told court that he used to earn 100 million shillings monthly from his fish export to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania, but he was out of business for long, hence the losses.
Court’s registrar Alex Ajiji has summoned Semanda and the Attorney General to file their defence within 15 days.
