The associations of the striking medical doctors and the court prosecutors have told the secretary to the treasury to address corruption in government instead of claiming that there is no money to improve salaries of civil servants.
Speaking in separate interviews with Daily Monitor, the association leaders said government should address corruption in its expenditure instead of complaining about low revenue collections.
Baxter Bakibinga the President of the Uganda Prosecutors’ Association says what they are asking for is not from the moon.
Bakibinga was responding to claims by Keith Muhakanizi the secretary to the treasury that at Shs.14 trillion, the national budget is too small to accommodate salary increments for civil servants.
On the other hand, Dr.Ekwaro Obuku the president of the Uganda Medical Workers’ Association says their industrial action is backed by research which shows that government can finance the health budget incrementally if its expenditure is prioritized.
