UK to support Uganda to scale up access to family planning services

By Benjamin Jumbe

The UK government has expressed commitment to supporting Uganda in efforts to scale up access to family planning services.

This comes as population experts raise concern over the high rate of births with an additional 1 Million people added to the country’s population annually.

Speaking at a public dialogue on Family Planning, the DFID head of mission Jennie Barf commended the government of Uganda for efforts towards addressing infant and maternal mortality.

She however says having about 2 Million women unable to access contraceptives must be tackled, stressing the need to empower them and young girls with information about reproductive health, contraception and family planning.

Meanwhile the key note speaker Dr Angella Akol from Family health International gave tips on how Uganda can harness the demographic dividends.
