The National Tuberculosis (TB) prevalence survey (NTPS) commissioned by Ministry of Health, Global Fund and WHO shows the prevalence at 253 cases per 100,000 people compared to the 2015 figures of 159 cases per 100,000 people.
It also indicates that in children, the prevalence currently stands at 36 cases per 100,000.
Dr. Frank Mugabe, the programme manager of the National TB and Leprosy Programme (NTLP), however, says the figures are high because the country has been using wrong estimates without factoring population increase.
The survey which was conducted between 2013 and 2015 further shows that
41,000 patients with TB are not detected annually.
The Ministry of Health is expected to release a full report in mid-October this year.
