Installation of radiotherapy machine starts on Monday

By Moses Ndhaye:

Installation of the newly purchased Cobalt 60 Radiotherapy machine is set to kick off on Monday next week at the Uganda Cancer Institute.

While officially receiving the machine this morning, the institute’s Executive Director Dr. Jackson Orem said a contingent of engineers from the Czech Republic, where the machine was manufactured will arrive in Uganda before Monday to carry out the installation which last one month.

Dr. Orem adds that once installed, the machine will handle upto 80 patients every day.

The radiotherapy machine whose delivery was marred by controversy last evening was acquired at a cost of over Shs.2.7bn and shipped into Uganda from the Czech Republic through Mombasa port.

It replaces an old one that broke down in March last year.
