Chief Justice Bart Katureebe launches committee to manage case backlog

David Kugonza | October 25, 2016

The Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has launched a ten member committee to manage case backlog in all courts of judicature.

The committee headed by the court of Appeal Judge Richard Buteera has only two months within which to give its recommendations to the Chief Justice on how to manage and clear case backlog.

The appointment of this committee follows a court census report that showed that over 114, 809 cases pending in courts with the longest spending ten years within the system.

The same report also revealed the Court of Appeal as having the lowest disposal rate of cases yet an improvement is seen in the lower magistrate courts.
