Church of Uganda on a mission to revamp teaching of local languages

David Kugonza | October 17, 2016

The Church of Uganda has embarked on a campaign to revamp teaching of local languages in a bid to preserve Uganda’s culture.

According to the head of the Namugongo Martyrs Church of Uganda, Canon Henry Ssegawa, the initiative by the Iteso Community is a means of teaching youths Uganda’s heritage.

He explained that it is embarrassing to find a person in Kampala speaking in foreign languages fluently yet they cannot express themselves in the native languages.

The Chairman Iteso Community Richard Adongo says lessons have started and will be held on Saturdays in various communities targeting both young and adult Ugandans.
