The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change has joined Ugandans in congratulating prince Nyabongo and the entire Tooro kingdom, upon today’s coronation which will make him the 15th ruler of Tooro kingdom.
Fort Portal City is the center of cultural attention as Prince Edward Rukidi Naybongo 1 is enthroned as the 15th Omukama of Tooro Kingdom.
The event marks a historic transition following the death of his predecessor Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamab Iguru Rukidi IV.
Thousands of Batooro, cultural leaders, government officials and guests are expected to converge at Karuziika palace for a royal ceremony last held on September 12th, 1995, when Oyo ascended the throne.
Addressing the media at the party Headquarter in Nanjjankumbi on Monday, the Deputy Secretary for publicity, Welid Mulindwa said the kingdom will be celebrating not just a king, but a rich heritage of unity, dignity, peace and culture that has held this nation together.
“As FDC we recognise and respect the vital role that those institutions play in fostering social cohesion and moral generations, Tooro Kingdom under the late King has been exemplary in championing education, tourism and fight against environmental degradation, so on this special day we join the Tooro People in celebrating this Kingdom’s Journey,” Mr Lubega Said.
According to the Central Organising Committee, about 50,000 people are expected to grace the function with President Museveni as a chief Guest.
