Former Botswana President Mogae warns against violation of ceasefire in South Sudan

The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission has warned that the continuous violation of the South Sudan ceasefire has the potential to trigger an uncontrolled escalation of violence motivated by retribution.

The Commission Chairperson Festus Mogae says these hostilities are committed by two parties to the agreement and other armed groups.

The former Botswana President has condemned such acts and these incidents must be investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice.

He calls upon both sides to regain full control of their forces and observe the ceasefire with immediate effect.

This follows reports of 10 people who were hacked by suspected rebels in Mongala near the White Nile.
