Health rights activists are up in arms against the HIV/Aids Prevention and Control Bill passed yesterday
Parliament passed the bill, which provides for 10 years in jail for someone who intentionally infects another with HIV.
Now the activists under the International Community of Women Living with HIV in East Africa are asking the president not to append his signature to the bill.
Speaking to kfm, Margret Happy one of the activists, said that this is going mainly to discourage expecting mother from attending antenatal care for fear of being arrested in case they are found to infected.
The ultimate penalty upon conviction is 10 years in jail or a fine of Shs 5m or both.
