Its Zakaayo’s 53rd Birthday

David Kugonza | October 27, 2016

Uganda Wildlife Education Centre’s oldest chimpanzee Zaakayo turns 53 years today.

The centre has organized celebrations to mark his birthday with quite a number of activities set up.

The centre’s executive director James Musinguzi says the day is to be used among other things to raise awareness about the plight of chimpanzees in the wild and the need to conserve them.

Zaakayo is said to have been rescued around Semliki in 1964 where he was found abandoned and was believed to be around 2 years by then but was brought to the centre on the 19th June 1976.
