Kabaziguruka case adjourned
The General Court Martial at Makindye has set the 8th/November 2016 to commence the hearing of a treachery case against the Jailed Nakawa Municipality MP Michael Kabaziguruka.
This after the Amy court lead prosecutor Maj. Raphael Mugisha informed the 7 member court chaired by Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti that invetigations are complete and he is ready to summon witnesses to testify against the accused.
Kabaziģuruka together with 25 other people including 22 UPDF officers are said to have contrived a plot to overthrow the gvt of Uganda by use of fire arms, an offence the prosecution says was committed between February and June this year in the districts of Kampala, Wakiso and Luweero .
These are currently held on remand at Kigo gvt prison and Makindye Millitary police barracks respectively.
However Kabaziģuruka has since challenged this trial in the Court of Appeal and refused to plead to the charges on grounds that he is not a millitary officer to be tried by the Millitary court.
The youthful MP also moved to apply for bail before the Highcourt -Criminal division saying the General Court Martial does not grant bail to civilian suspects who appear before it.
His bail application to be temporariry released from Kigo prison will come up for hearing on Thursday this week before Justice Yasin Nyanzi.
