Mental health experts have underscored the need to boost post pandemic social support services.

According to Dr Hafsa Lukwata, the acting assistant commissioner for mental health and control of substance abuse at the ministry of health, the current pandemic has shown glaring gaps in the mental wellbeing of people.

This, she says, is likely to stretch on even after the end of the pandemic.

Speaking at a virtual discussion on psychological support and mental health over the weekend, Dr Lukwata underscored the importance of continuous mental care for all people during and after an epidemic.

Dr Lukwata argues that people tend to go through other tougher situations after an epidemic especially those who have lost jobs and loved ones hence the need for special care.
