NSSF Justifies High Cost Of Houses

The National Social Security Fund has asked government to prevail over players in construction industry to ensure reduction in the cost of building materials if the cost of housing is to reduce.

The NSSF has over time been criticized for selling houses at a range between 150-200 million which locks out low income earners.

The Fund’s managing director Richard Byarugaba tells KFM that land has been over valued and building materials are extremely expensive and this directly affects the end cost of such houses.

Byarugaba suggests a 30% reduction in the cost of building materials if the housing projects under taken so far are to be affordable.
