Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke has explained the arrest of activist Praise Aloikin Opoloje.
Addressing the media at the police headquarters in Naguru this morning Rusoke said Opoloje was arrested for allegedly misusing her digital accounts and is currently in police custody, dismissing reports circulating on social media that she was abducted.
Rusoke however, did not disclose how exactly Aloikin allegedly misused her social media platforms.
He said Aloikin will be produced in court at an appropriate time.
It is alleged that on Saturday, Opoloje was invited by officers from Namungoona Police Station to resolve an issue with a carpet cleaner.
Upon arrival however, she was reportedly arrested and handed over to unidentified armed individuals.
Her arrest has drawn outrage from fellow activists, with lawyers and human rights defenders condemning police for reportedly luring her to the police station before handing her over to unknown people.
