Police rescues 42 trafficked Burundian girls

Police together with the directorate of Immigrations have rescued and repatriated 42 Burundian girls and arrested a suspect who was involved in trafficking them.

The spokesperson of the police criminal investigations directorate, Charles Twine says the suspect has already been charged to Court and remanded.

Of late the number of Burundi girls being trafficked is on the rise.

Just early this month a total of 32 trafficked girls ,all Burundi nationals were intercepted while in transit from Burundi through Uganda to the Middle East.

Twine then said there is information that some of the trafficked persons are victims of involuntary organ removal and according to the UN alert, a kidney costs about Shs113.4m, heart  about Shs515.4m and liver about Shs680m.

The latest police annual crime report shows that 214 cases were registered in 2020 compared to 252 cases registered in 2019, giving a decrease of 15.1%.
